Mitigating cybersecurity risk
News about hackers and ransomware attacks had leaders at Racine Metal-Fab (RMF) on edge. They wanted to know where the manufacturing company was exposed to risk and how to respond if they were attacked.

The Challenge
RMF knew the manufacturing industry was a target for hackers. But it wasn’t sure how vulnerable its people and systems were to cyberattack. It needed to assess its security practices, identify gaps and create an incident response plan to minimize loss.
The Solution
Wipfli conducted external and internal vulnerability assessments, including social engineering email phishing tests, to give RMF a baseline on its security performance. The assessment revealed potential compromises, as well as their technical and business implications. Wipfli prioritized vulnerabilities it found, ranging from software updates to end-of-life equipment and employee training. It also developed an incident response plan and enrolled RMF in a fraud hotline. Employee training also increased security awareness.
Attacks are being directed at small and mid-size companies. Too many nights of lost sleep led me to take action to shore up our defenses.

The results
Because of the assessments, RMF reduced its risk and shored up vulnerabilities. Now, RMF has a cybersecurity risk roadmap and a thorough approach to mitigate risk and gain peace of mind. RMF also has an effective framework for cybersecurity and the ability to identify and fix breaches fast. It established a strong culture of security, which can mitigate the most common risk: the human factor.
