Moving key business applications to the cloud

The Coburn Company needed to lay a foundation it could enjoy for years to come without fear its new solution would age or eventually lack support. Coburn turned to Wipfli to get that foundation in place and take incremental steps to extend the system and improve its capabilities.

The Challenge

Coburn had outgrown Microsoft Dynamics AX, the on-premises ERP it implemented in 2011. The solution required numerous customizations, many of which couldn’t integrate with third-party solutions. The system was challenging to keep current, and being on-premises had serious limitations.

The Solution

Wipfli recommended a new business foundation for Coburn: the cloud-based Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Wipfli helped Coburn transition to this system, added a new ecommerce solution, and created a custom integration for shipping — all during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s stressful for people. I’ve been really satisfied with the emotional intelligence of the implementors we’ve worked with.
Thayer Coburn, Owner and Director of Operations at The Coburn Company

The results

Reducing manual work saved the company significant time and effort. Just as important, Business Central made work easier and less stressful for staff. Business Central receives regular, automatic updates and integrates seamlessly into other apps and third-party extensions. Smaller, more gradual changes have been less stressful on staff. Since the ERP is cloud-based, it was also easier for staff to work remotely during the pandemic.
